Dec 7, 2020: I added supplements for new teachers about how to use the book (under HELP | SUPPLEMENTS). Feb 7, 2019: I made it easier for LogiCola to display properly in some Asian versions of Windows. Dec 26, 2018: I added to the help file (the section on Set P - Probability) a part about the rules assumed about dice and cards (which aren't universal across all cultures). Dec 24, 2016: The much improved third edition of my LOGIC book is now out; http://www.routledge.com/9781138910591 has further information. And LogiCola is now hosted on a second site, which Routledge agreed to support indefinitely: http://www.harrycola.com . Aug 11, 2016: I added quantificational Copi proofs to set I. To process scores about Copi proofs and truth trees (sets G and I), LogiSkor needs a version date of at least January 2016 (look at LogiSkor's ABOUT box under its HELP menu). The third edition of my logic textbook has longer explanations of Copi proofs and truth trees, as alternative proof methods. July 27, 2016: I updated LogiCola to fit with how the third edition of my logic book tweaks the explanation of S- and I-rules (see especially LogiCola HELP under INFERENCE RULES, exercise set F, and the class slides for propositional logic). Mar 8 & 31 & Apr 9, 2016: I fixed some bugs. Feb 20, 2016: I made LogiCola easier to set up on a Macintosh. Jan 12, 2016: I added Copi proofs and truth trees to propositional proofs set G. Oct 10, 2015: I added a portrait mode for the LogiSkor score processor; this helps you show both MAIL and LogiSkor on the screen at the same time. I strengthened the warning against students deleting lines when sending scores by e-mail. And I added a NETWORK MODE, whereby students are asked to insert a flashdrive for the score file and various other files; rename LogiCola.exe to LogiNet.exe (capitalization not important) to have it run in network mode. Aug 15, 2015: I made some changes to help the program work better with Windows 10. Oct 23, 2014: The Quantificational Translations set now has optional Loglish hints. Aug 16, 2014: LogiCola now works better using multiple monitors -- and the help file now has a section giving logic symbols that you can use (by copy and paste) in your own writings. Also, I've moved back to Loyola University Chicago, where I'm professor of philosophy. Oct 22, 2013: Fixed some display problems in Windows 8.1 (but at the cost of additional flickering during the problems). Sep 23, 2013: The touch keyboard now has "ASM:" and "REFUTE" buttons for proofs. Feb 3, 2013: Minor bug fixes. Just coming out is my new ETHICS AND THE GOLDEN RULE -- see http://www.routledge.com/9780415806879 -- which grew out of 45 years of reflection on Earth's most important moral principle. Jan 8, 2013: Two new features: (1) TRAINING WHEELS (like when you learn to ride a bicycle) option for proof exercises: If you have this on, you get hints about what line to derive next -- and the lines to derive from are bolded; the hints cease when you reach 15 points and the bolding ceases when you reach 30 points. (Note that the hints give ONE way to do the proof, but not necessarily the only way.) (2) TOUCHSCREENS AND TABLETS: You can now do LogiCola using only touch, only mouse and keyboard, or any combination of these. LogiCola works very nicely on Windows tablets or on larger touch-screen monitors. Jul 24, 2012: Started using harryhiker.com to store LogiCola. Apr 14, 2012: Improved the directions for sending scores by email and fixed a proofs bug. Mar 1, 2012: Removed the UPX compression that made the program smaller but also made it be rejected by some anti-virus programs. Dec 17, 2011: Minor tweaking. Dec 1-3, 2011: Added Cloud Sync and improved the display of scores on LogiSkor. Oct 15-18, 2011: I bought a new Macintosh and tried to make LogiCola more Mac friendly. I created a Mac LogiCola that can run on recent Macs as a self-contained Mac application; just copy it to your Mac and double-click it to start. http://www.harryhiker.com/lc/mac.htm tells how to set this up. This Mac LogiCola uses an ingenious "Wineskin wrapper" technology from Doh123 (see http://wineskin.doh123.com). I also tweaked LogiCola in many ways to run better on Mac and Linux, and I made further improvements and bug fixes. Feb 18, 2010: You can now get LogiCola t-shirts and mugs at http://www.zazzle.com/harrygensler*; and I fixed a bug with help balloons on Windows 7. Feb 9, 2010: Fixed a bug about printing scores -- and made it easier to send scores by e-mail for students who don't notice the PASTE TO E-MAIL button. Jan 26, 2010: The second edition of Gensler's INTRODUCTION TO LOGIC, which goes with LogiCola, is now out. The supplements now include a "Why the star test works" item. The ABOUT box now has an alternative LC update link. Dec 12, 2009: LC now works better under Wine (in Linux or Mac), and the LC download page now has a detailed tutorial for running LC in Linux using the free Wine program. Dec 6 and Nov 15, 2009: Many small improvements. And LC now has a younger sister, EthiCola, which is about moral philosophy (install from http://www.harryhiker.com/ec). Oct 21, 2009: The supplementary materials (accessible from the HELP menu) are now updated to fit the second edition of the book (but are still usable with the first edition). These materials include the teacher manual, sample tests, flash cards, and slides for classroom use. Oct 3-12, 2009: Some tweaking of the "send scores by e-mail" feature. Sep 24, 2009: Students can now easily send scores by e-mail. Bring up TOOLS | VIEW SCORES within LC, click PASTE TO E-MAIL, and then follow the directions. The teacher will receive an e-mail with score data and directions about how to process this data using LogiSkor. Sep 19, 2009: LC now has this NEWS section, the ABOUT box is expanded so you can open the most important Web sites and local folders (and it now displays better on 64-bit systems), and the "Supplementary Web Sites" option is eliminated (since it duplicates info in the HELP and ABOUT boxes). LogiSkor now correctly eliminates all the balloons when you turn "Help Balloons" off; it also give an option for having a larger LogiSkor window (which is useful if you have students insert flash drives in "Autorecord" mode and remove their drive when they see their name appear). The LC download page now has a detailed tutorial for running LC on a Mac using the free Wine program; it also has an online HELP file (since LC's ordinary HELP file doesn't work under the Wine emulation). Aug 10, 2008: The 32-bit Windows version of LogiCola is finished. (The original DOS version goes back to 1987, with Mac and Windows versions introduced in 1992. The HELP file has more on LC's history.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ LogiCola contains some Bitstream Vera Fonts.
